BMW has appointed a former member of its design team to replace departed Head of Design David Robb.

Edgar Heinrich will be taking charge of the BMW Group’s Motorrad Design Studio from July 1, 2012. Heinrich has a full understanding of BMW’s motorcycle design philosophy and working methods as he started his motorcycle design career in 1986 with BMW, and worked under Robb’s direction as Head of Vehicle Design Motorcycles from 2007 to 2009, after which he went to Bajaj Auto in India as Vice President Product Design.

There is still no news about David Robb’s departure, but I’ll be interviewing him for a feature here on Friday, February 3.
