YBR 250
Hi All,
Basically, I wondered if Kevin had tried a ybr250 as I find his reviews describe bikes very well.
The bikes I've owned have been a 125 varadero, cbf600abs and now a f800st for 9months. I have an eye on economy ( although of course fuel savings are overwhelmed by the cost of trading up) and the bmw has been good for that but I have been a little dissapointed by the softness of the forks and lack of oomph, although that may have a lot to do with my large frame! I actually miss the flickability and therefore fun of my 125. I commute in all weathers but dont really do any touring. Well, that's where I am coming from and the trajectory I'm taking with my bike experience is inexorably leading me to a litre bike (and I would no doubt get a lot of enjoyment from more oomph!).
However, the ybr has a enough power to cruise at dual carriageway speeds (unlike most 125s) and has a big fuel tank - most unusual these days. Plus the reassurance of yamaha design and mechanicals - though I expect the bike is not made in Japan. So here's me thinking - why don't I step off the (expensive) upgrade rat race and settle for a very economical bike in the fashion of the Velocette LE, Enfields and Australian postal bikes. Does this strike a chord with anyone and can you give your thoughts on the ybr 250, Kevin?
Cheers,
David

Nice work. Are you planning on using it over winter and, if so, does it look like the finish can take it?
I was "helping" someone choose a bike on similar criteria not long ago, and the one I really liked was the Kawasaki KLX250. Again, simplicity is the order of the day, although the Kwak's engine is a water-cooled 4v. It's very light and easy to handle, with plenty of performance for the urban jungle and the added bonus that it's a bit happier dealing with humps/ potholes/ being bumped up and down kerbs/ "grass tracked" along pavement verges, etc., than a pure street chassis would be.
The KLX's list price is a bit higher than that of the YBR, but doubtless pedroroberto would be happy to deploy his negotiating skills for a cut of the saving...
I agree that simple machines, sold at modest prices (with equally modest expectations) have a lot of appeal. I saw a picture recently of a proposed single-seat Ural. The old-school flat twin engine fitted to it probably makes less than 40 hp, but it would make a fine, everyday workhorse - with a dash of charm and retro style - if they could get it on sale (with reliable ancillary parts) for less than £5000.

Nike Golf Clubs
Several leading lines of golf shoes you may want to become able to consider are individuals made merely Nike. Nike discount golf clubs is a very large and successful activities and apparatus manufacturer that also offers a few great ranges of golf shoes and other golf apparel. ishiner
Thanks for the comments chaps, though I'm not sure if I wanted to know about golf shoes!
This is an interesting link - ybr 250s used to travel in tibet

My one thought is that the bike is a little overpriced, as buying it new (with the attendant first year depreciation)would negate the savings made on fuel, at least to start with. Pedro, it would be interesting to see how it stands up to our winters and what sort of tank range are you getting?
Cheers chaps

I've not ridden the YBR so I can't be too helpful with this but I can say Yamaha's small bikes are very reliable and more durable than most too. The bikes which aren't made in Japan (and this one almost certainly isn't) still adhere to the same standards so I wouldn't worry on that count.

Hi David - How uncanny, I have just purchased a YBR250 after owning a 600CBR and just selling my 125 City Fly...
I find the YBR a super bike, light enough to throw around and cheap enough to run. I'm getting over 90mpg it will do 90mph and cruse at 70 all day long. The best bit was the price. The RRP from Yamaha is £3,780 but with a heafty discount I actually paid £2,890 to Tamworth Yamaha and they delivered it! bonus.
Keep in touch Regards Peter
