BULLET 2011

I was very interested to read Kevins report on the royal Enfield Bullet 2011. last summer I hired a RE 500 for a few days and toured The Border regions of Scotland and The lake district on it. this included riding the hardknott & Wrynose passes. The bike was ideal for this allowing the rider to just cruise along and enjoy the scenery whilst returning in excess of 100 MPG.However if you don't like talking to complete strangers maybe a RE is not a good idea.
Whilst I admit that I wouldn't want it as my only bike I personally feel that this is a fun bike in it's own way. Having said that at under £4000 if money gets really tight once i retire I would certainly consider one of these rather than stop riding

I did quite a few miles during the week I had the RE and there were no signs of any problems. The only reservation I would have for your commute would be the motorway section where you might find the REs cruising speed a little slow

Thanks for the input Rocker. To be honest the motorway speed would not be a huge concern for me. If it can sit at 100-110 km/h then that would be fine, which I assume it can. It is only for about half of the ride and it is so often backed up with cars that anything higher than that is, more often than not, just a dream.

If my calculations are correct that would be about 65MPH which should be OK I wouldn't want to cruise at much more though

Curiously enough, the route I have taken and with similar reasoning.
The 1980 CB250n should be reshod today & MOT'd next week. I'll let you know how it goes.
Rocker, I'm picturing you on the Integra; Mr. Ash too, I suspect! I'm guessing the 'X' might be just a little too similar to your Crossrunner. Looking forward to your report.

Whilst the X nay be very simular to the Crossrunner visualy I believe from reports in the press that it will be a very different bike to ride.I'm sure Kev would be able to comment on that.
Having seen the Integra in the metal I finf it far too scooterish for my personal taste. Also the price is quite a bit higher than the X and by the time luggage is added it to it the cost is almost the same as a Deauville so I would probably buy a 4th one of these rather than an Integra

SilverCub - me ol' mucker!
Believe it or not I left three CB250N (and a CB250RS) behind when I left the UK and on a subsequent return scrapped them! The Czech authorities would not have registered them and there was no interest in Soup Dragons when I enquired around. Pity as I actually had a couple of seasons on one that was really good fun. I was all but unemployed, after returning from living in the States, so I was not splashing the cash too wildly and the CB did me well. Not exactly for pulling the arms out of the sockets BUT there was one road between Vogrie and Pencaitland (Google it) where I could faster on that than I could on just about anything else. That was simply because the physics allowed me to keep it nailed wide open all the way and the sequence of curves just suited the bike.
Happy days through rose tinted glasses

Resplendent with gleaming, if rather twangy, belt drive? :-)

If I had known about this before I hired the RE in Langholm I could have ridden that road. Certainly some nice roads around there that can be enjoyed even at a steady pace

Just winding you up, Rocker! Looking forward to your report.

Can we expect pictures?

If I am not mistaken then that is not so far from St Mary's Loch - or am I?

If its not then it should be !!! We used have great ride outs in that area. It is more or less on the doorstep off where I used to live and we used the southern parts/border areas of Scotland as regular weekend ride out destinations.

You take the prize sir. Nice bike friendly cafe just up the road too

Errr, yes but disappointingly, no belt drive - twangy or otherwise.

A favourite area of mine especialy I have friends off another bike forum that live in the area.We usualy park by the ram with no ears and go to one of the local cafes for a god old natter. The area may not have the dramatic views of the Highlands but the roads are good and deserted compared with my local roads. Well worth the long drag up from kent

Now I know it's God's country but didn't realise you had a direct line - very impressive indeed!!!!
It is a nice area though to be fair we never did much stopping as it was on our door step. You have gotten me all nostalgic for a trip back later in the year.

Silvercub, your iambic pentameter seems to be all a kilter.
Let me help out thar

There. All is right in the world.

Well spotted I'm certainly no typist :)
I must however question you on one point. true God's own country is quite near to this area being only a short trip over the Irish sea away

Well now you see you may have a point, of sorts, as I am rather fond of parts Emerald and most things related thereof. However we will just have to say that in this modern world yer man up top divides his time between the two.

And at least scotland is a lot cheaper. If only they could learn to spell whiskey :) :)

I find the Enfield also to have a certain charm and have toyed with the idea of one for my every day commute. I just can't make up my mind what to do. I basically have a 60km each way ride that takes in a little bit of country road, motorway and then city roads. The Diavel handles this great, honestly it does but the mileage I rack up makes it expensive to run, especially with tyres. The Monkeystrada is a huge laugh but to be honest it is not as rapid as I practically need every day. I also want something that I shall be happy to run through any weather, give decent economy, be comfortable and not cost a load of money to buy. I know that this will fill you, Rocker, with disgust so sorry for that, but I am even considering a big scooter. I find any and all bikes fun, so it is not a problem that I would be fed up with any bike. In saying that though I do tend to like things a little unusual, hence why an Enfield catches my eye. I believe that they have the practical elements all sorted out now and would tick most of the boxes.
