any way ive done over 8000 mls in about 6 mths my question is with the high milage i do would the gts 300 be up to the job or should i be looking at a yamaha xmax 250/500 cc
i know vespa engines are better than of old but yamaha seem to have no problems any advice please

For the best reliability I'd usually say go Japanese, and you certainly are least likely to go wrong doing that. Having said that, reliability and durability of Vespas, especially the larger GT series, is very good too. With that kind of mileage though I wonder of 300cc would be struggling a bit - presumably you're doing a lot of motorway or fast A-roads? I reckon a 500 would be a much better bet, though there isn't an X-Max 500, but Yamaha does do the T-Max 500. Alternative there's a Suzuki Burgman 650 and the Honda Silver Wing 650, they'd all be up for that. They're expensive though, another possibility is the Piaggio Xevo 400, which is £4,300 and a proper maxi scooter with loads of carrying space. The Vespa doesn't have much storage space at all, you can't even fit a full face helmet under the seat. Reliability of the Xevo should be fine.

I'd certainly not try to dissuade you from getting the Vespa, they're definitely cool (and my fave scooter!), they last well and should be up to the kind of riding and mileage you're talking about. The single most important thing is to change the oil at the recommended intervals, and to use a good quality one too, or make sure your dealer does.
Let us know what you decide and how it goes!

I can heartily recommend the Vespa. Since the TGBs* nicked the Suzuki, the only bike I've had has been the GTS 250, and do you know what? - it's the only bike I'll ever need (although I am considering buying a Royal Enfield).

Use a Vespa LX125 every day of the week. It's a cracker of a machine and I absolutely love it.

Mate has a 300GTS and swears by it. In London (where we live) it's the only way to travel.

A Versys? Good choice Jedi. Lovely bike, great price and goes well, scratch, tour - the lot.

Don't bother looking for tyres. Just attach a pair of skis to it and you'll be in business.
