Britain’s biggest bike dealer, George White, has gone into administration.

The company announced today, January 19, that it had ceased trading and a notice had been filed of intent to appoint administrators.

George White boasted eight large dealerships around the UK and held franchises for all four Japanese manufacturers as well as the Piaggio Group brands. Its business model depended on high volumes with low or zero sales margins and manufacturers' bonuses for achieving high sales targets. But the balloon burst due tot he combination of falling sales of Japanese bikes and a reduction in learner numbers due to the obstructive new motorcycle test.

The news could mean that customers who have paid for motorcycles, fully or partially, but have yet to receive them might lose some or all of their money.
